A Teaching Tool For Many Poets

Live, Love, Laugh With Me (2009), is book of poetry forms written by Jacquelyn Sturge, the Limerick Poetry Queen. It outlines her poetic style which starts with the letter A through Z. One must imagine the amount of planning, writing and reading, rewriting, and rereading she puts into this book to bring it to its final fruition. The book starts with her picture and a dedication to her family members, relatives, friends, and poetry lovers everywhere for their support. The first poem entitled, My Prayer, written in ABC Verse gives a rendition of the alphabet from A through Z in praises to God. It's inspiring and uplifting. Being from Trinidad, her poem entitled Trinbago Carnival, and written in the Acrostic poetic form is very jovial. It flows with the musical touch of the carnival, which comes right before Ash Wednesday and is similar to Mardi Gras in New Orleans. Linking to this is a poem entitled, Our Own Fireworks, written in the Anacreontic form also brings a flavor of delight with the melody of Auld Lang Sine to boost the spirit with a glass of wine as the carnival. Her bio poem on page 15 is entitled, I Am Jacquelyn. This poem is an introduction to the personality of the poet and gives a snap shot of her style. She prays for wars to end and the return of Jesus. Another poem which enhances reality is the poem, My Cell, which is written in the Chain poetic form. It gives another snapshot at her thoughts and how she has become a prisoner to her cell phone. This poem is realistic and applicable to today's generation chained to their cell phones. This book has a variety of realistic poems. For example, The Governor, written in the Chastushka form relates to the governor of Illinois and selling of votes. Naturally, she has a strong belief in the upholding of honest government for the people. The poem entitled, Winter, written in the Cinqku form and addresses the current state of winter is very real. Relating to this poem is the groundhog; upon seeing his shadow he has left the Midwest and the East Coast of America with snow blizzards and lack of electricity in some places. One must not forget the airplane in New York and the poem entitled, Miracle On The Hudson, written in the Dodoitsu poetic style. In this poem she brings reality to the forefront regarding the saving of lives.Continuing with a series of reality poems she has several pieces, one is entitled, Driver's Command, written in the Sedoka poetic form. The imagery in this poem is clear regarding the tasks a driver faces on a bus with disturbing passengers. The next piece entitled, Junk Mail, is written in the Spoem poetic form. It brings to mind the variety of junk mail from credit card companies, department stores, and the like, one receives by email on a daily basis. Finally, she ends the poetry book with the last word of the alphabet in a poem entitled, Follow My Heart, written in the Zejel poetic form. This poem speaks of the author's passion of following her heart, asking her Lord to show her the right way to travel on her poetic journey, and to never depart from Him. seuss book collection sets cat hat
